Nintendo Announce Nintendo Network

Nintendo announced their plans for a new network today in their ‘Corporate Management Policy Briefing/Third Quarter Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2012′. The Nintendo Network is the name of Nintendo’s network platform that will cover the 3DS and the Wii U. The Nintendo Network will support competitions and communications among it’s users along with the sale of digital content. It will also feature the ‘Community’ aspects as seen in Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS and the ability to purchase and download add-on content and the possibility of the digital distribution of packaged software.

The first title to feature the sale of downloadable add-on content will be Square-Enix’s THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY in which players will be able to buy additional music from SE.

Nintendo also plan to introduce a personal account system for the Nintendo Network on the Wii U which will improve the ease of using a hardware system shared by the family and will offer a variety of different services and content.
